Ultrasonic Motion, Presence or Occupancy Sensor | Vacker UAE
Motion, Presence or Occupancy sensors work in different technologies. The main technologies utilised are Passive Infrared (PIR) and
Ultasonic / Ultrasound technology. The operational details are as below:
PIR sensors – These work on principle of Infra red sensing of moving objects. All moving objects produce certain amount of heat and this is sensed by the sensor and an auxiliary circuit is activated which further controls connected load circuits. These are also called passive because these sensors do not emit or transmit any waves. The device senses the waves emitted by the moving object.
Ultra sonic sensors – These can be generally classified as active and passive. Active sensing implies that it will product sound waves in the ultrasonic range which are not audible by human beings. These waves get reflected by the objects and any change in pattern is recognised as a moving object. Passive detection is detection of sound emitted by the moving object. It is ideal for enclosed areas not occupied generally by anyone. When someone enters the area, the sound is detected and an auxiliary circuit is activated.
The general applications of such sensing devices of both technologies are for class rooms, corridors, stair cases, libraries, bath rooms etc.
There are devices which combine Infrared sensing and ultrasound sensing for improved accuracy and to utilise advantages of both the systems and are called dual technology sensors
PIR sensors need a line of sight and theoretically ultrasound technology does not need line of sight movement.
Such devices also come as a combination of a transmitter and receiver for direct applications such as detection of movement in pathways near machinery, restricted areas etc.
WattStopper’s W Series Ultrasonic Ceiling Sensors are versatile motion detectors that control lighting in a wide variety of applications. W Series Sensors can be used individually or as part of an integrated system of WattStopper lighting control products.
